I just wrote this up on my aging tech’ blog. If you need a small system with Windows to perform lightweight tasks, you might consider re-using one of the thousands of used, decommissioned corporate computers available on ebay. If your kid is going back to school and it’s virtual, an Optiplex with an i5 processor and just about any computer monitor with a VGA or DVI plug will work great, add in a cheap wired keyboard and mouse and you can get something working for less than $100.
